Dželetović Homemade Products
Cheese, kajmak and honey with a view of Bileća Lake
The Dželetović family keeps alive the Herzegovinian tradition of home production in the village of Čepelica, about ten kilometres from Bileća, on a rise above Bileća Lake. On their homestead, surrounded by around fifteen head of cattle, sheep and other livestock, they make cheese, kajmak and butter every day, following recipes passed down through generations.
Homemaker Ilinka learned the craft of making cheese and kajmak in her large rural family from childhood, and today continues the same trade on the homestead with her husband Luka. "I was born in the village, married in the village, and when everyone else was leaving, I stayed," says Ilinka, proud that their daily effort brings fresh homemade produce to the table. Alongside dairy products, the homestead also prepares preserves — jarred sour cherries, homemade honey and other garden produce.
