Bileća's most important mosque, built in 1895 on the foundations of an earlier building — an important monument of Ottoman heritage right in the town centre.
The Sultan's, or Town Mosque, stands in the very centre of Bileća and was built in 1895 on the foundations of an older mosque that stood on the same site. It is single-space in design, typical of the smaller Ottoman-era mosques of this region.
Together with the old shops of the čaršija, the mosque bears witness to centuries of shared life and Bileća's trading importance during the Ottoman period. Today it remains an active place of worship for the town's Muslim community.
