Church of St. Elijah
A small church on an island in the middle of Bileća Lake — one of the most recognisable and most photographed sights in the whole region.
The little church was built in the late 1990s on a small island in the middle of Bileća Lake, resting on an unusual construction of pillars above the water level. It is dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah, and depending on the lake's water level, it can sometimes be reached on foot across a shallow ridge.
Together with the surrounding limestone hills, the island church forms one of the most recognisable views of Bileća Lake and regularly features on the covers of tourism materials about the region. It is best experienced in the early morning or just before sunset, when it is mirrored in the calm surface of the water.
