Cathedral Church of St. Sava
The cathedral church in Bileća's centre, consecrated in 1896 and dedicated to Saint Sava — the town's central place of worship and the site of the annual Savindan celebration, the municipality's patron-saint day.
The cathedral church in the very centre of Bileća, on Kralja Aleksandra street, was built with stone from the surrounding area and consecrated in 1896. It is dedicated to Saint Sava, the first Serbian archbishop and enlightener, canonised in 1236, the spiritual and educational patron of the Serbian people.
This is the town's central place of worship and the site where, every year on 27 January (Savindan), large numbers of worshippers gather to mark the municipality of Bileća's patron-saint celebration. The interior is decorated with icons and frescoes in the classical Serbian Orthodox tradition, and the church is also the centre of parish life throughout the year.
